And yeah, a stabbing is not a normal father/son squabble. Now that said, I wouldn't go so far as to stab a relative if he entered church and didn't remove his hat--- If he was my child he'd know better. I'd just give him a good, swift slapping upside his head, allowing the hat to fall off ,and thus the problem would be solved.
