adam.riggins: Music boosts your workout performance

Without music I would probably poop out after about 20 seconds. I have to listen to loud, semi-angry stuff to keep me going. My regular stuff includes Fall Out Boy, Link'n Park, Panic!, Red Jumpsuit, Pink, and Evenescence. There are others but I think you get the jist.

Don't run to "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M.

Trust me...it made me want to jump off the bridge.

@nandango - I agree, loud, upbeat music can be the difference between a short run and a longer one. It pushes you!

@MTAE - I don't doubt it. Good song, just not in a "pump you up" kind of way.

Way back when the dinosaurs ruled the world, our swim coach would play music over the loud speaker when we practiced. It would help us to get into a steady, endurance rhythm, especially on those long, long sets.
I use it now when I work out, only it's for a different reason. The sound ( and earphones) blocks out the kids screaming my name...that way I don't have to stop and start every two seconds.

For me, it's watching scifi. :) I have the best gym in the world. There's one flat screen TV (nice-sized) for each treadmill, so I get to plug in my headphones, tune to the SciFi Channel, and watch Star Trek or Stargate for an hour while working out. Absolutely perfect!
