Most of the time, due to budget issues with a large family, I can't and so I become a pirate. If I like, say a music CD that I've 'copied' a lot, then when I have the money, I go out and buy it later when the funds are available .

scotties last blog post..Let the crazyness begin!

Re: Piracy vs. Theft

When I can afford to go to the movies or buy a new CD, I do. I admit it, I downloaded the first season of Alias from The Pirate Bay, and I liked it so much, I went out and bought all 5 seasons on DVD. Now you have companies, such as ABC, that will let you watch full episodes on their website in HD. Sure, there are a few 30 second ads, but it still is a great model.

I think these companies need to embrace the digital side of it and instead of suing people for it, learn how to leverage it to their advantage.

Re: Piracy vs. Theft

I agree with you. Large tv corporations are constantly removing youtube videos for copyright violations. Wouldnt it make more sense to just work a deal to show a short advertisement for the company at the beggining of the video and use the views to promote the clip and the show free of charge?

I mean, I am a pirate.. I have been for a long time. I constantly check thepiratebay for recent movies, and music and even games, I download them, and if they are good, I usually go buy the entire season from the exposure.

It works the exact same way from person to person. For instance, my roomate got me hooked on lost by letting me watch season one and two.. I literally watched them both in 2 days. On the same grounds, I was stealing those shows.. because I never payed for them.. but the exposure caused me to buy a copy for myself... so I dont know.

I wrote an entire paper on this, perhaps I should publish it... even if it was a simple college paper it pointed out alot of good things.

The most remembered was the VHS quote that said that it was going to kill the theater business... and it turned out it only increased the profits.

Re: Piracy vs. Theft

I hate how every large corporation tries to fight piracy.. it all really comes down to a more efficiant way of sending media.
